NYPAA 2012 Induction of Officers It was an honour to attend the North York Pinoy Athletic Association 2012 Induction of Officers. The North York Pinoy Athletic Association is an athletic organization, which was born as a response to the demand of the growing Filipino-Canadian families in the community. It offers programs like basketball and dance classes, which are facilitated and designed in a way that all the members of the family can come together and join. 4 photos |

Celebrating Family Literacy Day at Wilmington Public School It was great to celebrate Family Literacy Day by reading a story to the youngest learners and their families at the TDSB Parenting and Family Literacy Centre in Wilmington Public School. Family Literacy Day promotes the importance of learning and reading together as a family. Parenting and Family Literacy Centres are school-based programs in which parents and children, up to six years of age, participate in a range of play-based learning activities that focus on the optimal development of the child and the early acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills. 3 photos |

Africentric Alternative School visits City Hall Councillor Augimeri and I welcomed students and teachers from the Africentric Alternative School to City Hall. We recognized the students at City Council and read a proclamation from the City of Toronto commemorating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Councillor Thompson also came by to greet the students. I was proud to support the school as a school board trustee when it opened in 2009 in the Ward I represented. The school integrates the diverse perspectives, experiences and histories of people of African descent into the provincially mandated curriculum. 4 photos |
