My office received the following update regarding the Dufferin St. & Avenue Rd. at Hwy 401 Upcoming Bridge Demolition Work
Demolition of the west half of the Avenue Road bridge is scheduled to start on Monday June 4th. The work is tentatively scheduled to occur Monday-Friday nights from 11 PM to 5 AM and will take approximately 8 weeks; the days of work may change as the work progresses based on the schedule. Road closures to complete the work include partial and full closures of the Hwy 401 eastbound and westbound collector lanes and full closures of the Hwy 401 eastbound and westbound express lanes (depending upon which section of the bridge is being demolished at the time) – this is necessary for public safety. Avenue Road will remain open in its current configuration (1 lane in each direction) throughout.
The Highway 401 eastbound collector bridge (south half) over Dufferin Street is scheduled for demolition on June 2nd 2018. In order to complete the work safely, Dufferin Street will be fully closed in both the northbound and southbound directions from Bridgeland Ave./Yorkdale Rd. to Whitley Ave. (basically the section under Highway 401) from Saturday night at 10 PM to Sunday morning at 6 AM. PVMS’s (portable variable message sign) are going to be placed at 5 locations (2 on Dufferin St., 1 on the Hwy 401 eastbound off ramp to Yorkdale Rd., 1 on Yorkdale Rd. and 1 on Bridgeland Rd.) notifying the public of the upcoming full road closure. We hope to have the PVMS’s up by Monday or Tuesday. Detour signs will be put up on the night of the closure for Dufferin St. northbound and southbound to get around the closure.
