Allen Road will be partially closed this weekend to allow City of Toronto crews to perform annual maintenance. The road will be closed in both directions between Sheppard Avenue West to Highway 401 from 11 p.m. on Friday, April 27 to 5 a.m. on Monday, April 30 (unless work is completed sooner).
The partial road closure is required for the safety of the public and the workers.
Specific activities that will be undertaken during this closure include:
- road resurfacing
- in-depth bridge inspections and maintenance
- sign maintenance
- repainting pavement markings
- guiderail repairs
- trimming of trees on top of retaining walls and grass cutting
- litter clean up and graffiti removal.
Dufferin and Bathurst Streets are alternative routes for motorists to use during the closure. Whenever possible, people are encouraged to consider using public transit as a convenient alternative to driving.
The City will implement timing changes to traffic signals to enhance traffic flow on nearby routes, co-ordinate other construction work to prevent major work taking place along parallel routes and provide real-time traffic information on the City’s overhead signs to mitigate traffic congestion resulting from the closure.
Motorists who would normally use Allen Road should allow extra time, however, to get to and from their destinations during the closure.
The City has a web-based map to help residents and visitors make their travel plans, at http://www.toronto.ca/roadrestrictions. In addition, the City’s T.O. INview map shows planned capital construction work taking place across the city, at http://www.toronto.ca/inview.
This work is part of the City’s comprehensive, co-ordinated strategy to rehabilitate and upgrade Toronto’s roads, transit and underground infrastructure for current and future needs.
